Is the Serta Perfect Sleeper like a Tempurpedic?

Trying to compare Serta memory foam with Tempurpedic? Good luck! Just keeping track of all the different Serta bed models can give you a headache. Even trying to sort out which have visco elastic foam in them can be a strain. And its even more complicated by the fact that there's at least 4 different types of memory foam produced by Serta.

To keep you from getting confused, Memory Foam Maniac has put together two resources. First there's a simple list of the densities of various Serta memory foams along with Tempurpedic for comparision. Next we collected data on the most popular Serta beds that use memory foam and and listed them by type of foam used in that model.

Serta Memory Foam Density (in pounds/cubic foot)

3.0 - Standard memory stuffing found in the Serta 8 inch mattress

4.0 - CoolAction Gel Memory Foam. If you hold the foam in your hand, it feels just slightly damp and cool to the touch.

5.0 - Standard memory material used in the Serta Vera Wang and Serta True Response beds.

5.2 - KoolComfort memory material. A specially formulated open celled visco material found in Serta Perfect Day and Serta Perfect Sleeper inner spring beds and the iComfort memory models.

5.3 - Tempurpedic 'classic' density. But the Swedish mattress company is experimenting with different densities that have a more open celled structure.

The ComfortLast with Ultimate Edge support is not memory material. But a firm polyurethane base with an even harder perimeter edge. It minimizes the typical 'edge collapse' found in many memory foam mattresses.

Maniac's Note: I got the 4.0 pound CoolAction density figure from a Serta salesman who said that the factory rep gave him this density. But I suspect that the actual density is higher, maybe closer to 4.5 or even 5.0 pounds.

Serta CoolAction memory material is formed by combining a 4.0 lb standard memory open cell structure with bits of jello-like MicroSupport Gel. The MicroSupport Gel is very heavy and much more dense than the 4.0 pound that its mixed with. I picked up a palm sized piece of the gel about 1.5 inches thick and the weight reminded me of a similar sized water balloon. It's dark blue and similar to that found inside Dr. Scholl's Gel insoles.

Is the Serta Perfect Sleeper like a Tempurpedic?

As you can see from this list, the density of the memory material used in the Serta Perfect Sleeper is actually very close to that used in Tempurpedic. But the resemblance stops there. The Serta Perfect Sleeper uses coil, or inner springs for support and Tempurpedic uses an all foam approach.
